The Backplain AI Lab is a leased facility in Carlsbad, California — in the heart of the Southern California aerospace, biotech, and defense corridor. It connects over SD-WAN to our dedicated Lambda Scaler server (8× NVIDIA L40S GPUs, 1TB RAM) colocated in a SOC 2 Type II certified Tier 3 data center in San Diego.
Clients can lease a desk, a private room, or the entire facility. Your team can work alongside ours, hand off an entire workstream, or anything in between. For workloads requiring full air-gap, the server can be relocated to the Carlsbad facility on request.

A scoped, time-boxed engagement — typically 60 to 90 days — staffed with the right mix of ML engineers, data scientists, DevOps, and a project manager. Model Fine-Tuning & Training
Bring your proprietary corpus. We fine-tune or train on your data, on our hardware, inside a controlled environment. Compound codes, clinical trial data, classified contract terms, MNPI — none of it leaves the boundary you define. Delivered by named ML engineers with experience in regulated data environments.
AI Lab Fractional
A half-time named ML engineer, embedded in your roadmap. Right for teams that have a direction but need senior horsepower to execute. Month-to-month after an initial 90-day commitment.
Fractional CISO / AI Counsel
A named senior advisor for AI governance, policy authoring, vendor risk assessments, and security questionnaire response. Bookable in 4-hour blocks or as a monthly retainer.

Engagements are staffed from Backplain's full engineering bench: ML engineers, data scientists, DevOps engineers, security engineers, and project managers. We do not subcontract. Every person on your engagement is a Backplain team member who has worked inside the platform and understands the regulatory context you're operating in.
